Description
Peredovik sunflowers are an annual crop-type sunflower that grow 4-5’ tall with large yellow flowers. These sunflowers are a very popular species for game birds food plots that produce ripe seed in 90-120 days after planting. They provide good cover for hunters while the small, black seed attract dove, quail and turkey. However, deer relish the young plants, so plots planted for birds must be protected from deer in most areas. Peredovik sunflowers are also an attractive ornamental and benefit many pollinators.
Peredovik sunflowers readily establish in prepared seedbeds when drill or broadcast planted. They are much easier to establish in the planting year than Native sunflowers, but will not reseed in most cases. Shredding stands after maturity can make increase their attractiveness to game birds.
