Short Description: The Duval Red Lovegrass was collected from various locations across South Texas. While red lovegrass has little benefit to livestock or wildlife, it should be considered for restoration projects on sandy soils due to its ability to produce hearty seedheads throughout the year. Poor value as forage or wildlife cover, but good potential use for restoration. Please call to place an order (210) 661-4191.

Description

Duval Red Lovegrass is a native, warm season perennial bunchgrass that grows 1-2’ in height. Red lovegrass is a common native grass throughout Texas on loamy sand, sand and sandy loam soils. While red lovegrass has little grazing benefit to livestock or wildlife, it is an excellent restoration and revegetation species on sandy rangelands, for reclamation projects on sandy soils, and for wildlife habitat restoration plantings. The seeds are eaten by many wildlife species including quail and turkeys.

Duval Red Lovegrass is a blend of populations from south and coastal Texas that were developed for release by the Texas Native Seeds Program and the USDA NRCS Kingsville Plant Materials Center. Best use in restoration and reclamation plantings on sandy soils in the southern half of Texas.
