Description
Atascosa Texas Grama is a native warm season perennial bunchgrass that grows to 1’ in height. Texas Grama is commonly found on well drained upland sites, prairies, and grasslands in the western two thirds of the state. Grazing value for livestock and wildlife are poor, however the grass provides important cover and erosion control on many sites. Atascosa Texas Grama is used as a common component of rangeland, reclamation, and erosion control seeding mixes.
Atascosa Texas Grama was developed by the Texas Native Seeds Program, USDA NRCS, and Texas AgriLife Research for use in wildlife habitat restoration efforts and vegetation reclamation projects, especially on energy and transportation rights-of-way. The selection is a blend of 4 populations collected from the Rio Grande Plain of Texas. The release has shown good performance throughout south, central, and west Texas. Douglass King Seed Company is a licensed producer of Atascosa Texas Grama.
