DOTTED GAYFEATHER
Short Description:
Gayfeather is a native, warm season perennial wildflower that grows 1-3” tall. It produces very showy pink or purple blooms along an upright stalk. Gayfeather is important pollinator plant in late summer and fall throughout Texas. Fall-migrating monarchs and many other butterflies relish this species. Gayfeather grows from an underground bulb, making it extremely drought- hardy once established. This species prefers well drained soils and full sun. Gayfeather is commonly found in remnant prairies, on hillsides, along roadsides and in-well managed pastures. Deer and livestock will browse the leaves and tender foliage in the spring and summer.
